Securing a Loss and Damage fund was a huge victory for global South countries who stood strong and united in the face of dirty tricks by the rich historical polluters resisting taking responsibility for the crisis they caused – although whether the global North will actually stump up the money needed remains to be seen. On the debit side, there was no advance on agreements made in Glasgow concerning the phasing out of fossil fuels, letting countries like the UK off the hook for their ongoing expansion plans in the North Sea and elsewhere. And, inexcusably, Alaa Abd El-Fattah and many others remain prisoners of conscience of the Egyptian Government.
